BROOKLYN - Interfaith Medical Center has filed a request to move forward with plans from a bankruptcy court to close the hospital.

A spokesperson for Interfaith told News 12 that employees received layoff notices today, and the hospital laid out a plan to reduce services over the next several months.

Interfaith will not accept new patients or ambulances starting on Aug. 15 and will end all surgical procedures on Aug. 22. The emergency department will close permanently on Sept. 14.

The hospital plans to shut its doors on Nov. 14.

A similar situation is playing out at Long Island College Hospital, which remains at risk of closing due to a financial crisis.

The bankruptcy court will decide on Aug. 15 if the closure plan can proceed.
