BROOKLYN - After almost a year of hard work building homemade robots, some local students showed off their skills today.

Students from It Takes a Village Academy, along with more than 350 others from the New York City area, participated in New York University's "Robot Bee."

The First Tech Challenge Regional Championship is a competition filled with technical, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Students say they went through many prototypes and blueprints before figuring out the perfect robot for any task given. Most importantly, the students say they had a fun time that also serves as a learning experience.

The competing teams are vying for a chance to represent the NYC region at the FTC World Championship on April 23.
