(09/09/10) WILLIAMSBURG - Brooklyn Jews are celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the start of the new year on the Hebrew calendar.

The holiday started yesterday at sundown and lasts until tomorrow. Brooklyn has a large population of Satmar Hasidic Jews, which is a sect comprised mostly of Hungarians and Romanian holocaust survivors and their descendants. Many Satmar Hasidic Jews filled the junction at Hooper Street and Kent Avenue.

Rosh Hashanah is one the holiest holidays in the Jewish religion. It's a time to look at the mistakes of the past year, and plan positive changes to make in the new year.
