BROOKLYN - Brooklyn's Jewish and Muslim communities are continuing the fight against proposed state budget cuts to medical examiner's offices.

Rabbi Svi Gluck and Mohammad Raz-Vi say the cuts could cause layoffs and office closures, putting some religious traditions in jeopardy, particularly during times of death.

The chief medical examiner says cuts will force the layoffs of nearly 200 employees and close offices in the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island, which would in turn put more strain on the Brooklyn office and slow down DNA lab work.

Officials say they will be voting on the proposed budget cuts in the next few weeks.
