BROOKLYN - Joey "Jaws" Chestnut has won the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island for the eighth time.

He ate 61 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. Chestnut had said he hoped to eat 70 hot dogs and break his current world record of 69.

Before the contest, the defending champion proposed to his longtime girlfriend Neslie Ricasa, who is also a competitive eater. She said yes.

Three-time champ Sonia "The Black Widow" Thomas lost the women's competition, managing to devour only 27 3/4 hot dogs and buns. She was out-eaten by Miki Sudo, of Las Vegas, who downed 34 dogs and buns in the 10-minute period.

Mayor Bill de Blasio oversaw the weigh-in for the competition at an event on Thursday. He was joined by Chestnut and Thomas at City Hall.
