BROOKLYN - Two Bay Ridge men are being hailed as heroes for risking their lives to save another man who fell on the subway tracks.

John Gearity and Richard McDonald saved the commuter from the R tracks at the 77th Street station last Thursday. The two jumped down and carried him to safety when an incoming train was just 200 feet away.

Sen. Marty Golden honored the men for their actions with a proclamation Tuesday.

MTA officials say the man who fell was under the influence of alcohol and stumbled. No one suffered any injuries.
