DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN - A judge has freed a Brooklyn man that spent more than two decades in prison for the killing of a rabbi.

David Ranta, 58, was convicted of killing Chaskel Werzberger during a jewelry robbery back in 1990. Ranta spent the last 23 years years behind bars in a maximum security prison.

A reinvestigation by the District Attorney's Conviction Integrity Unit found there was no physical evidence linking Ranta to the crime. Officials say detectives may have coached witnesses to identify him as the gunman.

Werzberger was an Ultra Orthodox rabbi and a Holocaust survivor.
