Jury starts deliberations in Mineo case

BROOKLYN - Jurors began deliberations Wednesday in the case of three Brooklyn police officers accused of sodomizing Michael Mineo in a subway station and covering it up.

Mineo delivered an emotional testimony at the beginning of the trial, and prosecutors also brought in a transit officer who says he saw Officer Richard Kern press his baton against Mineo's buttocks.

During the trial, the defense called a medical expert who says Mineo's injuries were likely self-inflicted and there wasn't evidence he was ever sodomized.

Kern is charged with aggravated sexual abuse and assault. Officers Andrew Morales and Alex Cruz are charged with hindering prosecution. All have pleaded not guilty.
