BROOKLYN - At a special ceremony today, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly announced more than 100 promotions of officers within the department.

At the event, Kelly thanked the officers and emphasized the importance of the work they do.

"And thank you to every member of the department for making New York City what it is today... a place of unmatched security and an enduring symbol of freedom," he said.

Kelly also spoke of the safety measures planned for the upcoming Sept. 11 anniversary and the plans to concentrate officers around the memorial.
