WILLIAMSBURG - Three months after being evacuated from 475 Kent Ave. due to building violations, residents and business owners were able to return Friday.

Back in January, the fire department ordered tenants out of the building after finding a list of violations and hazards, including a stockpile of flammable matzoh grains that the landlord kept in the basement.

Tenants now say the building owners have been working diligently to bring the building up to code. They say the grains were thrown out within three days of the violation and the sprinkler system is brand new.

Some tenants, though, still think the three-month ordeal could have been shorter.

?It was just a massive inconvenience,? said resident Geff Barrenger. ?They could?ve found another way to do [the work] floor by floor and have us move out for two weeks rather than three months while they fixed our floor for the sprinkler system.?
