CROWN HEIGHTS - The annual West Indian Day festivities kicked off this morning with a kids' carnival.

The Junior Carnival parade features music, dancing and children in costumes.

Parents say having a separate parade for kids is about passing on tradition and culture to their American-born children.

The West Indian Day Parade is Monday.
