Kobayashi could be cleared for July 4 arrest

BROOKLYN - Japanese eating champ Takeru Kobayashi could be cleared for charges from a July 4 arrest.

Kobayashi appeared Thursday in a Brooklyn court. The judge saidhis case will be purged from the record if he stays out of trouble forsix months.

He pleaded not guilty to obstruction of governmentaladministration; resisting arrest; trespassing and disorderlyconduct.

Kobayashi leaped onstage during the annual Nathan'sFamous International Hot Dog Eating Contest. He was promptly escorted off the premises and arrested. His lawyer says officials waved him onstage.

A six-time champion of the contest, Kobayashi could not participate this year due to a contract dispute.
