FLATBUSH - The Jewish New Year is quickly approaching, and a kosher food pantry is helping low-income families prepare for the holiday.

Volunteers and workers from the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty are helping distribute hundreds of kosher food packages to families around the city. The location in Flatbush is one of 65 in New York City where people can get food.

Organizers say about 300,000 pounds of kosher food will have been distributed by the end of the week.
