BROOKLYN - Authorities say four people were hurt in a multi-car accident on the Gowanus Expressway.

Fire officials say the victims were taken to the hospital, and that all injuries appeared minor.

The accident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and caused major traffic delays in the area. Officials say all lanes of traffic have reopened.

The accident happened in the eastbound HOV lanes near Sixth Avenue at exit 21. All of the cars were brought down from the Gowanus to 38th Street and Fourth Avenue where they were loaded up and towed away.

A driver involved in the accident says there was black ice in the HOV lane. He says the first driver lost control and flipped over, causing a chain reaction.

Witnesses say 13 cars were involved in the accident.
