BROOKLYN - Today was the last day of classes for New York City Public School students.

Nearly 1 million public school students across the city celebrated the last day of school.

Yasmine Fidelia, principal at P.S. 276 in Canarsie, said it is important for parents to make sure they find fun activities for their children this summer that focus on learning.

“Children think that summer is all about having fun and it should be, however, we want the children to take the time during the summertime to read," said Fidelia.

Parents and educators agree it's important to reinforce what the kids have learned all year over the summer.
