Last-minute filers have midnight deadline to submit federal tax returns

Anyone who misses the deadline and owes money, could be charged a late fee. (4/15/14)

NEW YORK - Deadline day has arrived to file your federal tax returns.

Last-minute filers have until midnight to get their returns submitted online, or post marked with today's date.

The IRS says that most Americans file taxes electronically, but there are still some who do it the old fashioned way. The city is doing its best to accommodate those people by offering extended post office hours at some locations.

If you miss the midnight cutoff, and you owe money, Uncle Sam can charge you a hefty late fee. And if you still need more time, you can request an extension online with the IRS.
