BROOKLYN - Late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner was not inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame this year.

Pat Gillick, a former general manager whose teams won three World Series titles, was elected to Hall of Fame.

The former Yankees owner, who died this year at the age of 80, led the Yankees to seven world championships and 11 pennants. He bought the team in 1973 and has made it one of the world's biggest sports franchises.

Steinbrenner fell shy of the 12 votes needed from a 16-member committee.
