BROOKLYN - City lawmakers want to amend the gun offender registry act by making it public.

Lawmakers say they want to let New Yorkers know exactly who they're living near by putting the registry online.

As of now, a person convicted of gun possession charges must register his or her name, address and a picture with the NYPD.

City lawmakers say this is the first step in introducing a statewide gun offender registry.
