Legendary sports cartoonist honored in NYC

BROOKLYN - Legendary sports cartoonist Bill Gallo was honored with a statue in Manhattan Tuesday.

The ceremony was held at Gallagher's Steakhouse, where Gallo's work adorns the walls. He passed away a year ago after a 70-year career with the Daily News.

Former Brooklyn Dodger pitcher Ralph Branca was among those who spoke about his friendship with the artist. Gallo's wife and other family members were also in attendance, along with more than 100 members of the loyal "Gallo's Geezers."
