BROOKLYN - Local lawmakers announced a new safe haven law today after the brutal death of an 8-year-old in Brooklyn.

"Leiby's Law," named after Leiby Kletzky, would provide safe havens for those who are lost or need help. Certain stores and buildings would be given a city-issued logo and have employees pass background checks to ensure safety.

Police say Kletzky was walking home when Levi Aron took the boy in his car and later killed him. His remains were found in Aron's home and in a Dumpster in Sunset Park, according to investigators.

Many residents and business owners say they support the idea and while many business owners say it may be an expensive proposition to background check all of their employees, helping save children is worth the cost.
