HICKSVILLE - The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) says its service is back to a normal weekday schedule for this evening's commute.

The LIRR ran a weekend schedule this morning in an effort to make all stops and pick up passengers who may have been stranded. That led to fewer trains, delays and standing-room-only on trains due to large crowds.

Commuters say the information signs on LIRR platforms were either blank or confusing during the morning rush.

LIRR spokesman Joe Calderone admits these past few weeks of snow and ice storms have produced confusion for many commuters.

"We turned off the signage this morning because we did have that issue during the last storm," Calderone says. "We thought it was better to just tell people that we are on a weekend schedule."

Commuters are urged to check the schedules for any weather-related service changes.
