LIRR service changes causing commuter headaches

BROOKLYN - Brooklyn residents who rely on the Long Island Rail Road to get around are making alternate arrangements for transportation this weekend.

The LIRR has severely curtailed service until Monday while it upgrades a switching system at its hub in Jamaica, Queens. Only three trains an hour will be running between the Jamaica station and Manhattan, and there is no train service between Atlantic Terminal and Jamaica.

The LIRR will also limit service on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7, the weekend of the New York City Marathon.

Associated Press reports contributed to this article.
