BROOKLYN - A local celebrity raised awareness of World Suicide Prevention Day on Thursday by sharing her personal experience with her brother.

Cyn Santana of the VH1 reality series "Love & Hip Hop" lost her older brother, Joel, to suicide two years ago. She says there was always something about him that she couldn't ignore.

"When I was like 18, 19 we would go to my dad's house and all of the siblings were together except him, and I found that really, really strange," Santana says.

Today, Santana uses her reach on social media to spread the word about suicide prevention.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention says suicide is the third leading cause of death among people ages 15 to 24.
