Local drumline bands compete for Brooklyn United Marching Band's Turkey Day Battle of the Drumlines

BROOKLYN - Local drumline bands played their hearts out on Sunday for the Turkey Day Battle of the Drumlines.

The percussive competition was hosted by the Brooklyn United Marching Band. Its goal is to keep kids off the streets and focused on band.

One participant said, "I've been doing this since I was in junior high school, so I always had a leeway to escape and go somewhere. Band was always my escape."

A crowd of more than 300 people roared as they voted for their favorite bands.

The winners of the competition were "Black Fire Percussion" from Brooklyn and "X Factor" from the Bronx.
