Local leaders protest firehouse closures

BUSHWICK - Local leaders rallied today to protest budget cuts that could close more than 60 firehouses in the city.

Residents say Engine Company 271, which includes EMS services, is central to their neighborhood and has saved countless lives over the years.

The mayor says the city can't afford to keep it open. Engine Company 271 is one of as many as 60 fire companies that will be closed in July to help fix the budget gap.
