BROOKLYN - Local leaders are setting a new plan in motion to prevent teenagers from becoming distracted drivers.

Students at Utrecht High School are part of a new distracted driving awareness program, which gives them a hands-on interactive display on the dangers of not paying attention while behind the wheel.

According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, crash rates among teens are the highest of any other age group. AAA also released a report just last month that states fatality risk increases for young people with each additional passenger younger than 21.
