Local, state officials rally alongside building workers

BROOKLYN - Local and state officials joined building workers today to rally against the owner of the Flatbush Gardens apartment complex.

Thirty-two BJ union members say they were subjected to harmful conditions, including exposed wiring and lead paint, without the needed protective gear while working at the building in East Flatbush.

Protesters say they want the owner to take responsibility for $51,000 in fines it was issued by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Workers say they are also rallying due to a lockout with the owner in November that has left many without jobs for months.
