SHEEPSHEAD BAY - Loehmann's, the discount clothing store that got its start in Brooklyn nearly 100 years ago, closed its doors for good Wednesday.

The store, known for selling designer clothes at discount prices, filed for bankruptcy due to increased competition. A total of 39 stores, including a location in Sheepshead Bay, have closed.

Shoppers visited the store all day Wednesday, hoping to get last-minute deals. Customers say they're heartbroken over the news that the store is closing.

The original Loehmann's opened in Crown Heights 93 years ago.
