Loehmann’s discount retailer going out of business after 93 years

BROOKLYN - It's the end of an era for a popular discount retailer that got its start in Brooklyn.

Loehmann's has begun liquidating its inventory of discounted designer clothing after filing for bankruptcy last month.

The retail store traces its roots back more than 90 years when it opened its first-ever store in Crown Heights in 1921.

Shoppers at the Sheepshead Bay location are disappointed that it’s closing up shop. Many say they have fond memories of Christmas shopping there with their families as kids.

A company spokesperson says that all 39 stores nationwide will shut down by March because of an increase in competition.
