BUSHWICK - A Bushwick landlord is engaged in a heated dispute with seven tenants who submitted Loft Law applications.

The newly-revised Loft Law allows tenants living in illegally-converted lofts to apply as a means to protect themselves from being abused by landlords. The law requires landlords to install fire escapes, follow other safety requirements and implements rent stabilization.

Ted Bartin, one of the tenants, say he has to deal with cemented shower drains and missing knobs in what he feels is retaliation coming from his landlord.

The landlord argues that the tenants only have commercial leases and it is illegal for tenants to live there.

With help from Councilman Vito Lopez, the tenants hope to get their Loft Law applications signed.
