BROOKLYN - Long Island College Hospital's nurses and doctors are demanding to be involved in the process to find a new operator.

SUNY Downstate recently put in a request for information to find a new operator in the hospital, and staff members are worried they'll be shut out from the whole process. Last week, SUNY Downstate withdrew its plan to close the hospital.

The New York State Nurses Association and UnitedHealthcare workers are demanding a moratorium on all hospital closures, saying Brooklyn needs its full-service hospitals now more than ever.

A spokesperson for SUNY Downstate says it is reaching out to hospital operators and health care providers to gauge interest in providing medical services to LICH.
