CONEY ISLAND - Luna Park broke ground on the Thunderbolt, the newest roller coaster that will soon open at Coney Island.

The Thunderbolt is named after the original roller coaster that was on Coney Island from 1925 until 1982. It was dismantled in 2000.

The Thunderbolt will be the fourth roller coaster at Coney Island. It will feature a vertical lift of 115 feet and five loops.

Construction is expected to finish in time for the Thunderbolt to open for Memorial Day weekend.
