BROOKLYN - Chinese New Year celebrations continued Sunday with a parade in Sunset Park.

A large section of Eighth Avenue was shut down for the 27th annual Lunar New Year celebration. Thousands of people flooded the street to watch as performers both old and young kicked off the tradition.

Before the Lunar New Year, many Chinese-Americans spend time preparing for the holiday, and are eager to celebrate once it hits.

2013 was the year of the snake and this year marks the year of the horse. Officials with the Brooklyn Chinese-American Association are hoping this calendar year will bring more success to the Chinese community.
