Lutheran Medical Center, Red Cross team up for emergency preparedness event

BROOKLYN - Lutheran Medical Center in Sunset Park, along with the American Red Cross, held a free emergency preparedness training program Saturday.

Along with the training, officials provided residents with supplies to use in the event of a disaster.

A Red Cross spokesperson says there has been a 30 percent increase in disasters in Brooklyn in the first two months of 2014, compared to last year.

The spokesperson also says that more than 800 disasters occur in Brooklyn each year.

The event helped kick off National Red Cross Month.
