M.S. 278 closes following early morning fire

BROOKLYN - Officials at M.S. 278 say the school was shut down for the day due to a small fire that erupted on the roof of the building just as students were arriving this morning.

School officials say plywood caught fire near a construction site on the roof of the Marine Park building located on Stewart Street at around 7:40 a.m.

They say about 1,000 students attend classes there and that no one was hurt. Students who were not able to be picked up by their parents were transported by buses to nearby M.S. 207 for the day.
