Maimonides emergency room fears overcrowding

The closing of one local hospital may lead to limited space, resources and overcrowding in Maimonides Medical Center as well as other area hospitals. As cited

BROOKLYN - The closing of one local hospital may lead to limited space, resources and overcrowding in Maimonides Medical Center as well as other area hospitals. As cited in the Berger Commission, state officials are closing Victory Memorial Hospital in June due to state funding and low occupancy. Now, those who would go to Victory will be directed to Maimonides or Lutheran Medical Center. Maimonides has already begun to tackle the issue of overcrowding by ordering more beds and working on a new program that would direct-admit some patients straight from home. Citizens are confident that the hospital will be able to handle the surge of patients.?As for the overall quality of the institution, I would almost say superior,? said one local citizen.

A state department spokesperson says there is grant money available for Maimonides along with other hospitals affected by the Victory Memorial Hospital closing.
