BROOKLYN - A man suspected in the killing of his ex-girlfriend, a rookie correction officer, was arraigned Wednesday in Brooklyn Supreme Court.

Keon Richmond, 35, is accused of shooting Rikers Island correction officer Alastasia Bryan execution-style as she sat in her car near Avenue l and East 73rd Street in early December.

Richmond was questioned in connection with her death, but was not arrested until last week. He was formally charged Wednesday with second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and he was denied bail.

Richmond's girlfriend, Shirley Mejia, was also in court on a charge of hindering prosecution. She was being held on $50,000 bail.

Some of Bryan's family members were present in court. They say Bryan had been working at Rikers Island for about a month when she was killed. She had planned to become a corrections officer to help serve her community.

Richmond was first arrested day's after Bryan's death for allegedly setting ablaze a car belonging to another ex-girlfriend. He's since been held in Suffolk County Jail and also has 30 other prior arrests.

Richmond and Mejia are due back in court March 15.
