Man accused of strangling girlfriend to death

BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn man has been arrested for allegedly strangling his live-in girlfriend to death, police say.

According to investigators, Muhammad Iqbal, 45, choked 44-year-old Khadija Mahel with an electrical cord during a heated argument April 13.

Iqbal allegedly dumped Mahel's body in a Queens cemetery and then took their two children to school, police say.

Neighbors say the couple would often fight, especially over their impending eviction and Iqbal's gambling problem.

The suspect was taken into custody Thursday on an outstanding warrant. Mahel and Iqbal's two sons were taken by child protective services.
