BROOKLYN - A man is dead after an accident at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Police say a 25-year-old man working at the yard was riding in an elevator when the power went out at around 10:30 p.m. on Friday.

Stuck between the fourth and fifth floors, the man opened the elevator doors and tried to escape.

Police say the man may have misjudged the distance to the ground in the dark. He fell down more than four floors.

The man was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where he later died.

A spokesperson from the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation is looking into why the power failed. The yard takes in its own power and is not powered by Con Edison.
