CONEY ISLAND - A man was fatally struck early this morning as he tried to cross the Belt Parkway in Coney Island.

The accident happened on the eastbound side of the parkway, between exits seven and eight, near Coney Island Avenue. Police say a gray sedan hit the man in his 30s just after 4:30 a.m.

The car stopped after hitting the victim and the driver waited for police to arrive.
