Man killed by hit-and-run driver in Sunset Park

BROOKLYN - A man is dead after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Sunset Park Monday night, authorities say.

According to police, 28-year-old Javier Hernandez was driving a black BMW when he ran over a 33-year-old man at 51st Street and 3rd Avenue. They say Hernandez fled the scene, but was arrested just three blocks away.

The victim was taken to Lutheran Medical Center and pronounced dead on arrival. Police say they are not releasing the victim's name until the family has been notified. Authorities have not yet formally charged Hernandez, but say charges are expected.
