Man killed in Brooklyn; 1st NYC murder of 2010

BROOKLYN - A man was stabbed to death in East New York just hours into the new year, becoming New York City's first murder victim of 2010.

Police say the victim, 21-year-old Kirk Holgate, and another 27-year-old man left a New Year's Eve party on Ashford Street shortly before 3 a.m. and became involved in a fight with a third man.

Holgate was stabbed once in the groin and a second time in the face, police say. The 27-year-old man who accompanied him was stabbed in the back. Both were taken to Brookdale Hospital, where Holgate died. The second victim is expected to recover.

So far, no arrests have been made.
