BROOKLYN - A man was shot by a police officer after fleeing from a traffic stop Thursday night in Canarsie.

Patrol officers say they saw the man run a red light at around 7:30 p.m. They say they attempted to pull the man over, but he took off, hitting several parked cars and struck a police unit as he backed up.

Police say an officer reporting to work nearby saw the scene unfold, and that is when he shot the man in the shoulder.

The suspect is listed in stable condition. Police say charges are currently pending.
