BROOKLYN - Tragedy struck in Crown Heights today when a city Department of Sanitation truck struck and killed a man crossing Carroll Street.

Witnesses say a 25-year-old man was walking north through the intersection as the truck made a right-hand turn from Kingston Avenue. The driver had not seen the pedestrian and struck him. He suffered severe head trauma and died at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Arinzaid Gedalya. Sources say he was from the Ukraine and was temporarily living in Morristown, N.J. as he studied to become a rabbi.
