Marathon runners take over Prospect Park

BROOKLYN - Runners took over Prospect Park over the weekend for the first-ever Brooklyn Marathon.

About 350 people showed up for the 26.2-mile event, organized by the race information website NYC Runs. Organizers said that a marathon in the borough was long overdue since many local runners get left out of the city's larger and more popular races.

The organization and its participants are hoping that the successful turnout this year will mean an even bigger event next year.
