Marine from Brooklyn killed in Afghanistan

BROOKLYN - The U.S. Marine Corps has confirmed that a Marine from Brooklyn died on Sunday after sustaining combat injuries on July 13.

Lance Cpl. Jabari N. Thompson was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

"On behalf of all New Yorkers, we honor the service and dedication of Lance Cpl. Thompson," Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) said.

Gov. Cuomo has ordered all flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff on July 22 in memory of the fallen Marine.
