BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn business is helping a charity fight a rare genetic disease.

Marine Park's Natural Body Inc. is teaming up with the JAR of Hope foundation to fight Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Jim Raffone launched JAR of Hope after his son was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

According to the National Institute of Health, the disease primarily affects boys and is caused by the absence of a protein that helps maintain muscle integrity. By age 12, most of those stricken with the disease cannot walk and later need a respirator to breathe.

Partners like Natural Body Inc. donate proceeds to the foundation and also help to shed light on the disease.
