Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced today that a portion of New York City's federal Superstorm Sandy recovery money will be used to help homeowners repair their properties.

The city is getting nearly $1.8 billion during the first round of aid distribution from the government. Much of that money will also be used toward community development.

The funds are only a portion of a $50 billion aid package approved by Congress last month.
