Mayor Bloomberg calls for crackdown on gun-control laws

NEW YORK - Mayor Michael Bloomberg called for a crackdown on gun-control laws during a speech today.

The mayor has been outspoken about problems with loopholes in gun-control laws since the shooting rampage in Tuscon, Ariz. that claimed several lives and injured others, including an Arizona congresswoman.

"I didn't hear very many people stand up and say, 'Let's take a look at this tragedy and see why it happened and stop letting people who shouldn't have guns have guns.'  And I don't see the courage to stand up and do it," Bloomberg said.

Bloomberg also mentioned toughening up laws on who can buy a gun, as well as a crackdown on background checks at gun shows.
