NEW YORK - Mayor Michael Bloomberg says that under the new state budget, New York City will see cuts in employment for teachers, police and firefighters.

In a radio appearance today, the mayor said the city must reduce fire department numbers as well as police force numbers.  Twenty fire companies throughout the city are slated to close under the new budget.

Bloomberg also said the number of teacher reductions, currently planned for more than 6,000, is still on the table.
